Utah Veteran Goes Skydiving For 90th Birthday

ERDA, Utah — One Utahn celebrated a major birthday by fulfilling a dream he’s had since he was a young man.

Joe Jaramillo was part of the 61st Field Artillery Battalion while serving in the Army during the Korean War, but his dream was to be a paratrooper.

Unfortunately, he was 17 pounds too light and didn’t qualify, so he said if he made it to 90, he’d jump out of a plane.

That’s exactly what happened with Skydive Utah at the Tooele Valley Airport Saturday as the Purple Heart recipient finally made his lifelong dream come true.

“Oh my gosh, I want to do it all over again! Haha! Oh, when you’re coming down, a lot of wind is hitting you, a lot of wind, and all of the sudden, dun dun! Haha!” said Jaramillo shortly after he landed.

Jaramillo said he’s proud of his time in the Army, and jokingly said the best time he had in Korea was the 22 days he spent being cared for in a MASH hospital.
