A fire early Saturday morning in Kahului caused an estimated $20,000 in damages to two buildings, fire officials said.
Fire crews were called to an area at Vevau Street and Kane Street in Kahului around 12:42 a.m. Saturday and found a fire in an abandoned building. Crews deployed lines for fire control and to limit damage to nearby structures.
The fire was bought under control at 1:29 a.m. It was fully extinguished by 4:48 a.m.
A 40-foot-by-30-foot building, which has been abandoned since 2013, sustained $10,000 in damages. Fifty percent of the building was burned.

The nearby Maui Adult Learning Center structure also suffered $10,000 in damages.
Engine 1 from Wailuku; Engine 5 from Makawao; Engine 10, Rescue 10 and Tanker 10 from Kahului; a battalion chief; and a fire investigator all responded to the fire.
