A record number of players — 59 of the 60 who are eligible — will be in the field when The Sentry returns to the Plantation Course at Kapalua next week for the PGA Tour’s season opener.
The 26th anniversary of the event being held at the Plantation Course will be the largest ever played here, breaking the mark of 42 set in 2021. The field became official when the noon HST deadline to enter passed on Friday.
The kickoff event of the 2024 FedEx Cup regular season will miss only Rory McIlroy from the 60 players who are eligible to be here. The eligibility criteria is now all PGA Tour winners from the 2023 calendar year and all of the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings from 2023.
The field includes four FedEx Cup champions, 34 PGA Tour tournament winners, including 12 first-time winners, and 25 who qualified via finishing inside the top 50 in the final 2022-23 FedEx Cup standings.
Following the Aug. 8 wildfire that devastated Lahaina, The Sentry did not confirm that it would be played until Sept. 21.

Collin Morikawa follows the flight of his drive off the first tee during the first round at Kapalua on Jan. 5.
Max Novena, the executive director of the tournament, said that the field is impressive.
“We are so excited for the incredible field that’s going to start their year here on Maui, celebrate the new year, celebrate the new season with us,” Novena said. “Top to bottom, with the mix of winners and anyone who qualified in the top 50 of the FedEx Cup points list, it’s just an incredible field.
“I think beyond that, I think our players and their families, they love the island, they love the people, they love the culture, and I think with everything that’s happened in this community it’s going to be a really important moment and a great way for us all to continue to move forward.”
Several players in this field are leading efforts to raise funds for fire survivors and relief efforts.
“Many of our players publicly have already stepped up to talk about how they are going to support the island and the community,” Novena said. “Certainly players like Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, and many others. That said, there are also going to be a lot of players and families who are very quietly give back to the island.”
There are several ticket options, including kamaaina prices — $45 per person for the first two rounds, Thursday and Friday, and $55 each for Saturday and Sunday.
